Learning about Animoto August 18, 2010

Riccarton High School is dipping it’s toes into the world of Animoto
The possiblilties seem endless as to how we could get our teachers and students presenting information and ideas, by using animoto.
We’ve registered with the US$30 package for a year.I think we’ll have some great content, to justify that outlay.

Innovation in inquiry. July 14, 2010

I’ve been following some amazing blogs, written by incredibly innovative librarians and teachers.
Many Web 2.0 aps that use technology in a creative way to get greater student buy-in have got me thinking.
It would be great to see students presentating their inquiry findings using more than just the usual powerpoint and poster presentation  styles.
Voki, Animoto,Wallwisher,Youtube and Wiki’s have definite potential in our secondary school setting.
And, a student driven and run blog to record comments, highs and lows.
If anyone has more suggestions of aps they’ve had success with, I’d love to read your stories.

Inquiry Learning is coming to Riccarton High School!

Filed under: Uncategorized — librarypaula @ 2:17 am

When December rolls around this year, instead of winding down and spending the last few days keeping our students amused while they count down the hours until their Summer holiday’s start, Riccarton High School (Christchurch,New Zealand) is launching into the relatively unknown territory of Inquiry Learning, in a Secondary School setting.

Students from years 9 and 10 will work in their form classes, with the traditional 5 period day abolished for the days of the Inquiry.
In small groups, the students will investigate answers to questions they set around a themed topic for each year group.

Teachers and students will be limited only by time and their imaginations.
Students work can be presented in many formats … paper, poster, youtube, video, online ….
